A week ago or so, November 11th, 2009 to be exact, I found the best way to make a living on the Internet. Perfect timing too since money has been hard to come by lately.

I just had to share it with you.

It's so simple I know people who don't even know how to use a computer are able to do this.

I signed up for a blogging service that only costs me $9.95 per month and then I get paid $1 a month every time someone I refer signs up.

So, what makes this really good money is you can have up to 5 subaffiliates under you and when each of these refer others who sign up for the service I get $1 a month for each of those sign ups as well.

At first I thought I couldn't make much money with this but then someone showed me how on the first level if I refer 10 people who sign up I get $10 a month, which pays my blog service and then on my second level if each of these 10 people each refer 10 people I make another $100 a month and if you repeat this on the third level I get $1000 a month and the fourth is $10,000 a month and the final fifth level is $100, 000 a month.

The Lowdown on Mineral Makeup

Mineral makeup is more than just a new beauty trend – it claims health benefits for skin as well. But is it really help – or hype?

WebMD Feature provided in collaboration with Healthy Child Healthy WorldReviewed by Michael W. Smith, MDAs beauty legend has it, it was the mid-1970s, in the aftermath of the frenzied Haight-Ashbury love-ins of San Francisco, that a quiet, little cosmetic revolution was born.

It was called "mineral makeup" – products made of all natural, finely ground minerals from the earth, without any of the chemicals, dyes, and preservatives found in traditional makeup. Fast-forward some 30 years: Mineral makeup is virtually exploding the beauty market.

"This is an extremely popular style of makeup – and it's something that a lot of my patients use and love, and I use it myself. It's also the product most patients ask about," says Kathryn Frew, MD, a dermatologist at Juva Skin and Laser Center and MediSpa in New York City.

And while mineral makeup comes in a variety of forms – and at prices ranging from less than $10 to more than $50 per product -- undoubtedly the most popular in all price ranges are the loose powder foundations and blushes. These are light, finely ground loose minerals that are buffed into the skin using a wide, fluffy brush.

But does "natural," "mineral," and "from the earth" really equal better? WebMD discovered the answer has a lot of qualifying factors -- and some vastly differing opinions.

Mineral Makeup and Skin Health
Like most cosmetic products, mineral makeup has its fans and its critics. Those who love it rave about the light, natural, long-lasting glow that simply can't be duplicated by other types of makeup. Others, however, complain it's drying, irritating, and accentuates wrinkles and adds years to your appearance. Some say the colors have an ashy undertone that is a particular problem for ethnic skin types.

But looks aside, many consumers also say they are initially drawn to try mineral makeup because of skin health claims – more specifically, that it's pure formulations are safer and better for sensitive, even acne- or rosacea-prone skin.

But is it?

"Quite frankly, I think mineral makeup is just a genius marketing plan -- a new way of selling women the same ingredients that technically have been in makeup for years," says dermatologic and pharmaceutical chemist Ben Kaminsky, author of the new book Beyond Botox: 7 Secrets for Sexy, Ageless Skin.

The main ingredients (minerals such as mica, zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide), says Kaminsky, have been the basis of most makeup foundations for decades. And he says mineral makeup has no special health or beauty properties.

"Mineral makeup can cause problems the same as any other preparations can cause problems. It's not purer; there's no scientific proof of that," he says.

But other experts see it a bit differently. Many dermatologists report that because mineral makeup frequently eliminates classic "irritants" – like fragrances, binders, synthetic dyes, and preservatives -- it is considered "purer" and can be kinder to the skin.

Makeup sensitivity is often the result of synthetic dyes, fragrances, and preservatives, so any makeup that eliminates these is going to eliminate some of the related problems," says Frew.

Moreover, she adds that because titanium dioxide [and zinc oxide] have anti-inflammatory properties, certain mineral makeups can also have a calming effect on the skin, particularly important if you suffer from inflammatory problems such as rosacea or acne.

Dermatologist Francesca Fusco, MD, agrees. "It's non-comedongenic, so it won't clog pores, and it's not going to aggravate an acne condition or cause a flare-up as easily as some traditional makeups can," says Fusco, an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York City.

But what about the claims made by some companies that mineral makeup is so pure "you can sleep in it"? Experts draw the line here.

"I would never tell a patient to sleep in any kind of makeup. It's not a good idea for the skin to be covered at night, no matter how pure a makeup might be," says Fusco.

Mineral Makeup and Sun Protection
Another big draw to mineral makeup are the claims of sun protection. With an average SPF rating of 15, at least one company, Bare Minerals, has the Skin Cancer Foundation seal of approval as a sunscreen. Jane Iredale, AfterGlow, and other mineral makeups claim similar protective effects, due mostly to the high content of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide -- two ingredients commonly found in traditional sunscreen.

But does mineral makeup give you all the sun protection you need? Experts say no.

"It's better than using nothing, but I always tell my patients to use a regular cream sunscreen under their makeup and then use the mineral foundations as an extra boost," says Frew.

Mineral Makeup: Not All Alike
Extra ingredients aside, it may seem as if all mineral makeup should be pretty much the same. But WebMD discovered that's far from the truth.

Since there is no set regulation for what constitutes a "mineral” makeup, any product containing minerals as a primary ingredient can be marketed as such -- even if it contains a whole lot of other "less natural" ingredients.

Kristen Adams, president of AfterGlow Cosmetics, says the battle lines between brands are drawn this way: "Mineral makeup formulas generally fall into two large camps - those that take care not to use synthetics (like paraben preservatives and other fillers) and stay true to the original intent of pure mineral makeup, and those that do add the fillers, colors, binders, preservatives, and other chemicals to their formulas," says Adams.

Although you can weed out at least some of these brands by reading the ingredient label, Adams cautions not to let the term "all natural" or "all mineral formula" fool you.

That's because within the brands that claim "pure mineral" formulations, there is still another category breakdown -- those that contain an arguably "natural" mineral known as bismuth oxycholoride, and those that do not.

A pearlizing agent that gives mineral makeup that "candlelight glow," bismuth oxychloride is a mineral, but it's not found in the earth. Bismuth is a byproduct of lead and copper processing. Bismuth oxychloride is also frequently used to fill or "bulk up" or bind products, says Adams, and some say it comes with a heavy price.

"Bismuth oxychloride is considered a skin irritant and can cause itching and rashes and in large amounts it can cause cystic acne as well – it's one of the ingredients you should try to avoid if you have acne or rosacea or sensitive skin," says Frew, who also reminds us that some products in a line have this ingredient, while others do not. "Some products also contain very little, so it doesn't act like an irritant, but you won't know until you try it."

Mineral Makeup: Buyer Beware
One of the factors that makes mineral makeup so popular is the smooth, natural, long-lasting coverage -- a feat that's some companies accomplish by pulverizing or "micronizing" their minerals into microscopic or even nanoparticle size.

But some researchers say this activity may come with a price.

"Research shows that when some molecules are dramatically reduced in size to the level of a nanoparticle, they can have very different and very toxic properties than that same molecule would have in its conventional size," says Jane Houlihan, research director of consumer watchdog agency The Environmental Working Group in Washington.

"Minerals like zinc and titanium are safe when applied to healthy skin but in a micronized nanoparticle form, there remains a concern, particularly when applied to damaged skin, or when inhaled," says Houlihan.

The bottom line: Even when beauty comes from the earth, it's still a case of beauty buyer beware.

Dear friends,

You won't believe this, I just found the best and easiest way to make a living on the Internet. Perfect timing too since money has been hard to come by lately. It's so simple I know people who don't have a computer that are able to do this and the pay is fantastic.

I signed up for a blogging service that only costs me $9.95 per month and then I get paid $1 a month every time someone I refer signs up. But what makes this really good money is I can have up to 5 subaffiliates under me and when each of these refer others who sign up for the service I get $1 a month for each of those sign ups as well.

If you wear lipstick on a regular basis, please know that a test that was recently
commissioned by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics found 20 different brand-name
lipsticks to contain lead. Eleven of these lipsticks were discovered to contain more
than the 0.1 ppm limit that has been set by the FDA to protect children from direct
ingestion of dangerous amounts of lead.

Unfortunately, there are no regulations in place that limit the amount of lead that can
be used when manufacturing lipstick. According to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics'
report, the average woman who wears make-up eats approximately 4 pounds
(1.81 kilograms) of lipstick during her lifetime via drinking, eating, and kissing -
this unnecessary exposure to lead can ultimately contribute to the development of
a variety of health problems.

The most common health problems that are associated with lead ingestion in
teenagers and adults are:

The aloe is a succulent plant with a lot of water in its leaves and is part of the lily and onion family. There are many types of aloe plants and the best known of all is aloe barbadensis or aloe vera, which means true aloe.

Aloe was used by the early Egyptians, Chinese, Greeks and Indians, it was reputedly one of Cleopatra's beauty secrets and the Greeks and Romans used its gel to heal wounds.

The aloe plant contains a wealth of nutrients in its leaves such as vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids.

Pet Turtles - Linked To Salmonella

Two girls who swam with pet turtles in a backyard pool were among 107 people sickened in the largest salmonella outbreak blamed on turtles nationwide, researchers report.

The 2007-08 outbreak involved mostly children in 34 states; one-third of all patients had to be hospitalized. In many cases, parents didn't know that turtles can carry salmonella.

Despite a 1975 ban on selling small turtles as pets, they continue to be sold illegally.

The American Veterinary Medical Association estimates that the number of pet turtles nationwide doubled from 950,000 in 1996 to almost 2 million in 2006.

"It's very easy to think of turtles as being a very gentle and nice pet," but many carry salmonella, without showing any signs, said Julie Harris, a scientist at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the report's lead author.

Salmonella in turtle feces can end up on their shells and body, and can spread to people who handle them.

An infected turtle can spread the same strain of salmonella to others during shipping, which may be how the outbreak occurred. Turtles involved were bought at pet shops, flea markets, from street vendors and online. The Food and Drug Administration contacted retailers involved and their investigation is ongoing, the report said.

"Continued, collective efforts are needed, both on state and federal levels, to enforce the ban and protect public health," the report said. It appears in October's Pediatrics, released Monday.

Authorities began investigating in September 2007 after a Union County, N.C., teen swam in her backyard pool with two pet turtles and a friend from South Carolina. Both girls developed bloody diarrhea, vomiting, fever and stomach cramps; one developed kidney failure and spent eight days in the hospital.

Salmonella bacteria traced to those turtles matched salmonella later found in three other North Carolina children. Other cases turned up elsewhere, many involving direct contact with turtles, including children kissing turtles or putting them in their mouths, Harris said.

Indirect contact likely also occurred, she said. For example, children playing with turtles at school may have brought the germs home and spread them to family members, Harris said.

Illnesses from the same kind of salmonella turned up coast to coast through January 2008, including 12 people in California, 10 each in Pennsylvania and Texas, and nine in Illinois.

No one died in the outbreak but many required several days of hospital treatment, Harris said.

"Everyone from pediatricians to other public health professionals needs to really stress that reptiles and especially turtles are a source of salmonella infections," she said.

The ban only affects turtles less than about 4 inches in diameter because of reports that young children had gotten sick after putting the small reptiles in their mouths.

David Bergmire-Sweat, a North Carolina epidemiologist who investigated the Union County case, said he's heard of families letting turtles walk on kitchen surfaces where food is prepared, and babies being bathed in sinks where turtle cages are washed.

Because the federal ban was enacted more than 30 years ago, "many people just don't remember," he said.

Recent efforts to overturn the ban, backed by turtle farmers, have failed.

Veterinarian Mark Mitchell, a University of Illinois zoological medicine professor, has been working with Louisiana turtle farmers in research aimed at raising salmonella-free turtles. Initial efforts involved cleansing turtle eggs with antibiotics, but that led to strains of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Mitchell said now he's focusing on washing eggs in disinfectants similar to chlorine. He says the industry has been unfairly saddled with harsher restrictions than producers of human foods also blamed for recent salmonella outbreaks

No I am not talking about the 1967 World War II war film directed by Robert Aldrich, based on the novel by E. M. Nathanson and starring Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine, Telly Savalas, Charles Bronson and Jim Brown.

I am talking about Ingredients To AVOID In YOUR Personal Care Products.
When you are shopping for new skin care products it's very important to read the label and check if the products contain harmful or toxic chemicals.

These ingredients are very commonly used, so don't be surprised if you find you've been using several products that contain most of them.

1. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) & Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES).
Detergents that pose serious health threats. Used in garage floor cleaners and engine degreasers and in 90% of personal-care products that foam. Animals exposed to SLS experience eye damage, depression, labored breathing, diarrhea, severe skin irritation, and even death. SLS's are used to create lather and suds, and are often needed to fill up the bottle of most skin care and hair care products.

2. Mineral Oil:

5. Petrolatum: (including Polyethylene Glycol (PEG):
This familiar, semisolid mixture of hydrocarbons is derived from petroleum. Literally, "paraffin jelly" or "petroleum jelly". Carcinogenic petroleum ingredient that reduces the skin's natural moisture. Increases the appearance of aging and leaves you vulnerable to bacteria. Used in spray-on oven cleaners and cleansers to dissolve oil and grease. it is not absorbed by the skin and suffocates the pores. All petrochemicals pollute our water and destroy marine life

6. Alcohol: Isopropyl Alcohol, SD Alcohol 40, Ethyl Alcohol:
Alcohols dissolve the body's natural moisturizers and strip the skin of its protection, leaving it vulnerable to infection. Alcohols destroy skins pH balance, and since they absorb water, they speed up wrinkling. Made from a petroleum derivative found in shellac and antifreeze as well as personal care products. Promotes brown spots and premature aging.

7. Fragrances:
This is a blanket term used by many manufactures to hide thousands of dangerous ingredients at once. Can contain up to four thousand ingredients (including animal urine), many toxic or carcinogenic.

8. Borax:
Sodium Borate, Boric acid - Used in baby powders, bath powders, eye creams, skin fresheners, and protective creams as a preservative. Borax is rapidly absorbed by the skin, and despite repeated warnings from the American Medical Association, it's still widely used in skin care products.

9. Acetone:
Gas additive and harsh solvent used to dissolve Superglue. Found in significant amounts in nail polish remover, toners and astringents. Some side effects include kidney, liver, nerve damage and death. It is extremely toxic and will dehydrate the skin, while speeding up the aging process.

10. Borax:
Borax is rapidly absorbed by the skin, and despite repeated warnings from the American Medical Association, it's still widely used in skin care products. Sodium Borate, Boric acid) Used in baby powders, bath powders, eye creams, skin fresheners, and protective creams as a preservative.

11. Propylene Glycol (PG) and Butylene Glycol:
Found in Anti-freeze. Acts as a "surfactant11 (wetting agent and solvent). Penetrates skin and weakens protein and cellular structure. Strong enough to remove barnacles from boats! PG penetrates the skin so quickly, the EPA warns against contact to prevent brain, liver, and kidney abnormalities.

12. Triclosan:
Synthetic "antibacterial" with a chemical structure similar to Agent Orange! It can change genetic material, decrease fertility and sexual function, and foster birth defects. Internally, it can lead to cold sweats, circulatory collapse, and convulsions. Stored in body fat, it can accumulate to toxic levels, damaging the liver, kidneys and lungs, and can cause paralysis, brain hemorrhages and heart problems.

First, if you have dry skin avoid alcohol-based products. By this I mean Isopropyl Alcohol, SD Alcohol 40, Ethyl Alcohol. These alcohols dissolve the body's natural moisturizers and strip the skin of its protection, leaving it vulnerable to infection. They also destroy the skins pH balance, and since they absorb water, they speed up wrinkling. These type of alcohols make your eyes water and your skin turn red, two sure signs that those skin care products won't work for you!

With the approach of cooler weather, dry skin is making its comeback. Here are a few suggestions to help with that battle against dry skin.

Turn down the temperature! Very hot water will only dry your skin out more. So when you enjoy a bath or shower, keep the water lukewarm instead of hot.

Cigarettes and Smoking Impact Your Pet’s Health

You know cigarette smoke is bad for you but have you ever considered how it is affecting your pet?

A growing body of research shows there are no safe levels of exposure to secondhand smoke -- for humans or for animals. And one new study shows that nearly 30 percent of pet owners live with at least one smoker -- a number far too high given the consequences of exposure to secondhand smoke (SHS).

An estimated 50,000 Americans lose their lives to secondhand smoke annually and 4 million youth (16 percent) are exposed to secondhand smoke in their homes. A number of studies have indicated that animals, too, face health risks when exposed to the toxins in secondhand smoke, from respiratory problems, allergies and even nasal and lung cancer in dogs and lymphoma in cats.

In addition, the ASPCA, one of the largest animal rights groups in the U.S., lists tobacco smoke as a toxin that is dangerous to pets. Said Dr. Sharon Gwaltney-Brant, medical director of the ASPCA's Animal Poison Control Center:

"Nicotine from secondhand smoke can have effects to the nervous systems of cats and dogs. Environmental tobacco smoke has been shown to contain numerous cancer-causing compounds, making it hazardous for animals as well as humans.”

In order to better protect dogs, cats or other pets, the foundation and ASPCA recommend that smokers -- who often consider their domestic pets a part of the family -- "take it outside" when they are smoking.

It comes as no surprise that secondhand tobacco smoke is completely toxic to pets. Your dog and cat share some common physiology with you, so many things that are toxic to you are also toxic to them.

You have been hearing about the hazards of second-hand smoke for years. But chances are, you haven’t heard much about third-hand smoke.

A recent study from Harvard Medical School, published in the January 2009 Journal of Pediatrics, found additional health risks associated with what they termed “third-hand smoke,” describing the invisible yet toxic brew of gases and particles clinging to smokers’ hair and clothing, cars, and carpeting that lingers long after the second-hand smoke has cleared the room.

Third-hand smoke is what you smell when a smoker gets into an elevator with you after going outside for a cigarette, or in a hotel room where people have been smoking.

Studies Confirm, Tobacco Smoke is Bad News for Fido

Even very small amounts of inhaled smoke can have damaging effects on your pets.

A 2002 Tufts University study linked second-hand smoke to cancer in cats. The study found that cats living with smokers are twice as likely to develop malignant lymphoma—the most common feline cancer--as those in non-smoking households. Lymphoma kills 3 out of 4 afflicted cats within 12 months.

One reason cats are so vulnerable to the carcinogens in tobacco smoke is they are meticulous groomers. Daily grooming over a long period of time can expose their delicate oral tissues to hazardous amounts of carcinogens.

A 2007 University of Minnesota study showed that cats who live with smokers have nicotine and other toxins in their urine.

A 2007 Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine study linked second-hand smoke to oral cancer in cats (squamous cell carcinoma.) Cats living with more than one smoker and cats exposed to environmental tobacco smoke for longer than five years had even higher rates of this cancer.

A 1998 Colorado State University study, published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, found a higher incidence of nasal tumors and cancer of the sinus in dogs living in a home with smokers, compared to those living in a smoke-free environment. The nasal/sinus tumors were specifically found among the long-nosed breeds such as retrievers and German shepherds.

Unfortunately, dogs with nasal cancer do not usually survive more than one year.
The same study showed higher lung cancer rates in short to medium nosed dogs who live with smokers, such as boxers and bulldogs. Their shorter nasal passages made it easier for cancer-causing particles to reach the lungs.

Another study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology found that dogs in smoking households have a 60 percent greater risk of lung cancer.

Let’s not leave out our little feathered animal companions. Birds are not impervious to the damage from cigarettes.

A bird’s respiratory system is hypersensitive to any type of airborn pollutant. Dr. Carolynn MacAllister, Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension Service veterinarian, states that the most serious consequences of smoke exposure in birds are pneumonia and lung cancer, but they can also develop eye, skin, heart and fertility problems. Coughing and wheezing are common reactions.

Birds lucky enough to be free of their cages but end up sitting on a smoker’s nicotine-coated hand often develop dermatitis and end up pulling out their own feathers.

Educating the Public is Slow, and Getting Them to Change is Even Slower

Having knowledge about the risks of smoking does not automatically lead to a change in behavior, as you well know. Smoking is usually the result of a powerful addiction.

There are many reasons to quit smoking -- the two most common ones being personal health and cost.

But what about quitting for the sake of your furry family members? A recent survey suggests your pet’s health might be your strongest motivator.

The Henry Ford Health System in Detroit conducted an online survey to find out if pet owners, given information about the negative health effects on their pets, would snuff out their cigarettes. Of the 3,293 U.S. pet owners surveyed, 28 percent said they would try to stop smoking based on the knowledge that it was harming their pets.

In the U.S., there are 71 million pet owners. About one-fifth of those are also smokers.

This seems to imply that educating pet owners could have a significant impact on reducing smoking rates—and that would greatly improve the health of people and animals alike.

Recognizing Nicotine Poisoning

In addition to inhaling carcinogens, your smoking habit can harm pets in some surprising ways:

By ingesting cigarette or cigar butts, which contain high levels of nicotine and other toxins

By drinking water that contains cigar or cigarette butts, where nicotine has become concentrated
By ingesting nicotine replacement gum and patches, or cigarettes, cigars or snuff

The toxic level of nicotine, for both dogs and cats, is 0.5-1.0 mg of nicotine per pound of body weight. In dogs, 10 mg/kg is potentially fatal.

One cigarette contains 15-25 mg of nicotine, depending on the brand. The butt of a cigarette has a surprisingly large concentration of nicotine for its size -- 4 to 8 mg.

Signs and symptoms of nicotine poisoning in your dog or cat include:

Tremors, twitching, or seizures
Drooling
Constricted pupils
Auditory and visual hallucinations
Excitement, racing heart (but slow heart rate with small doses)
Vomiting and diarrhea

If you suspect your pet has ingested nicotine, call your vet immediately or the Animal Poison Control Center at 888-426-4435.

What You Can Do to Protect Your Pets -- Until You Quit Smoking

Exposing your loved ones and pets to second- or third-hand smoke is clearly not helping their health. You owe it to your pets to clean up your act.

To minimize their risks while you’re working your way up to quitting smoking, you can:
Follow the advice of the ASPA and “take it outside.” Smoking only outdoors will prevent a large share of smoke particles from settling into your home or car, reducing your pet’s toxic load.

Use a high-quality air purifier in your home to help remove excess toxins.

Change your clothes after smoking, and wash your clothing right away--or at the very least, air it out outside.

Wash your hands after smoking, and before you touch your pets

Ideally, wash your hair after you smoke, especially if you have a pet (or a child) that will be in close proximity to you.

Keep ashtrays clean -- don’t leave them for your pets to find.

Dispose of cigars, cigarettes, nicotine gum, patches, snuff, smokeless tobacco, etc. in receptacles that can’t be accessed by pets.

Deadly Skin Sins

I hate to get preachy on you, but if you want your skin to look great well into your 80s, you may want to follow some of my tips!

So now, repeat after me, "thou shalt not" ...

1. Thou shalt not: smoke
If you wont quit for your heart and lungs, quit for the sake of your skin! When you smoke, you diminish the skin's ability to get the oxygen it needs. Without optimal oxygen, skin cells can't renew themselves. In addition to the obvious vertical lines and wrinkles around the mouth, your skin overall will look lackluster and dull.

2. Thou shalt not: get unprotected sun exposure
Incidental sun exposure (the little bits of sun we get) while walking, jogging driving can build up over the years. I recommend applying at least SPF 15 daily. If you plan on getting more sun exposure, wear SPF 30 and reapply every two hours. Protecting your skin from the sun daily will help prevent premature aging (think brown spots and fine lines) and skin cancer.

3. Thou shalt not: wear makeup to bed
At night is when all of your skin rejuvenation happens. If you wear makeup to bed your skin can't get the oxygen it needs to breath. When skin is suffocated, "your natural collagen building process is impaired causing clog pores that acts as food for bacteria," which can cause breakouts and make pores more visible.

4 Thou shalt not: be stressed
Stress causes a multitude of things. "It robs the skin of its blood supply and can elevate blood sugar, which can cause cells to function abnormally

The top third of the ingredients label generally lists the ingredients that comprise around 90-98% of the product. Most of this is usually water.

In what may be the scariest shower news since Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho," a study says showerheads can harbor tiny bacteria that come spraying into your face when you wash.

People with normal immune systems have little to fear, but these microbes could be a concern for folks with cystic fibrosis or AIDS, people who are undergoing cancer treatment or those who have had a recent organ transplant.

In general, is it dangerous to take showers? "Probably not, if your immune system is not compromised in some way," lead author Norman R. Pace says. "But it's like anything else -- there is a risk associated with it."

The bugs in question are Mycobacterium avium, which have been linked to lung disease in some people. Symptoms of infection can include tiredness, a persistent, dry cough, shortness of breath, weakness and "generally feeling bad.

Showerheads were sampled at houses, apartment buildings and public places in New York, Illinois, Colorado, Tennessee and North Dakota by Researchers at the University of Colorado. They tested 45 showers in five states as part of a larger study of the microbiology of air and water in homes, schools and public buildings.

They found that the bacteria tended to build up in the showerhead, where they were much more common than in the incoming feed water.

The same research team has found M. avium in soap scum on vinyl shower curtains and above the water surface of warm therapy pools.

Baths don't splash microbes into the air as much as showers, which blast them into easily inhaled aerosol form.
